The collection consists of letters written by Edward James to his wife Elizabeth Harrell James in Fitzgerald, Georgia, before and after they were married. The letters give details of the camps, towns where he was stationed, his bombardier training, and the bombing missions. He gives descriptive details of the Okinawan people, houses, crops, and typhoons. The letters to his wife are both romantic and sexually explicit.
